Beautiful Day

4:45 a.m. Resolve to try to sleep or at least stay in bed until 7:30. "I'm too excited to sleep" (Disney World ad).
7:30 a.m. Rise to prepare for the day.
9:15 a.m. Kiss the kitties and start 2 hour drive to North Shore of Mass.
11:15 a.m. Minimal office/campus business.
12:15 p.m. PASS PAPERS FOR CONDO. Lovely, humorous meeting with two bored lawyers and one realtor. Obvious they tell the same jokes and same stories about their teenage kids and grandkids at every closing.
1:15 p.m. Try to find friend to accompany me to my new home to share in the moment. Fail at endeavor. What is the deal with people with real jobs or homes that are hours away? (My place is on the second floor from the top, on the right end (three sets of windows).
1:45 p.m. Successfully apply MY KEYS to enter building, carrying up one load of laundry.
2:00 p.m. Skim through OWNER'S manuals and start FIRST LOAD OF LAUNDRY in new washer.
2:15 p.m. Carry up carload of stuff - mostly winter clothes, which are unwelcome in my sweltering Connecticut rental.
3:00 p.m. Walk next door to the Salvation Army to see about buying a chest of drawers, a recliner or a rocker or some other comfy chair.
3:05 p.m. Before arriving at Salvation Army, 50 yards from condo, I realize that when you turn right coming out the back entrance to MY NEW HOME, the first business you come to is Pho Lynn. Yes, family readers, double-take all you need. I LIVE NEXT DOOR TO A VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT! I'm hereby requesting that someone related to me by blood or marriage arrive at your earliest convenience to check it out because (a) I'm ascaird to try it on my own (it's all dark and looks like a dive bar, and the only other VN restaurant I've tried in New England was pretty iffy), and (3) all my friends in this area are too wimpy-American to eat VN. (I know the pix are blurry, but you've got to trust me that it goes: Sallie Army, Pho Lynn, big green field, my building.)
3:15 p.m. Purchase recliner-rocker! At $40 I'm sure it's more than any of you would pay for a used chair with a small tear and slightly dirty arms, but it's the most comfortable thing I've ever owned, and I'm sure Grandma would like it, so I was happy to start spending my $745 from her on this perfect piece. Borrow Sallie Army cart to move furniture into new home, about 50 yards away.
3:16 p.m. Realize I miscalculated. The elevator is on the uphill side of of my building, and I needed to get chair and cart up about six concrete steps to turn the corner in the parking lot and get inside. I huffed and I puffed and a nice Man on the Street laughed and came to my rescue. He carried the chair up the steps and into the entryway to my building. I went back to get the cart but couldn't get the chair up onto it. Who knew comfy chairs were so heavy!
3:18 p.m. Dragged comfy chair down sport-carpeted common area hallway to my place, and heaved it across the apartment to the living area.
3:30 p.m. Returned cart to Salvation Army and proceeded to walk around the neighborhood. Headed down toward the beach a couple of blocks (got to where I could sea the ocean and headed back - the blue beneath the sky in blue-green photo is the ocean). Bought some water and toilet paper so the condo's good to go when I next visit. Realized there are a lot of lovely dog-run park areas around so I should probably get a dog. Only allowed two pets, though (for a total of 25 pounds, which my babies make up together), so will need to break the news to Georgie.
4:30 p.m. Sat in recliner and enjoyed the views.
5:00 p.m. Headed "home" (through rush hour traffic).
5:10 p.m. Accepted the fact that you have to drive simultaneously East and West on 129 to get out of Lynn, then follow the signs to go North on 95 in order to go South.
6:00 p.m. Talked to Dad on way home.
7:20 p.m. Sat down on the floor to tell the catties and you all about it.

What a totally awesome day! I want to go with you to Pho Lynn! That is amazing! Another sign from God that you are supposed to be there! I wish I could be skidding on your nice hard wood floors in celebratory excitement but I guess I'll let you do it for me.

Like your shoes.

McCobbey writing at 12:22 AM?? I didn't get to see this until now, but wow, it looks great. Dad said he had talked with you on the way to 'old home'. It's going to take some BIG curtains to cover those windows.

A few more days, and some more Cobbeys will be moving into a NEW home.
